Energizing was a proof of concept game designed to promote healthy eating and physical activity. The game mechanics used the gyroscope. Tilting the phone caused the character to run forward or backwards. The goal of the game was to catch and eat all the healthy food and avoid the junk food. As the user ate more healthy food, more points were scored, the character gained more health, became leaner, and moved faster, making it easier to eat more food within the time limit given. As the user ate junk food, the character became fatter and slower making it difficult to eat food within the time limit which eventually lead to the character’s health dropping to zero and ending the game.
This proof of concept also featured the idea of limiting the amount of time playable on the app. After a preset amount of time the game would lock for a set period of time. Kids could be rewarded with additional play time within the game if the parents confirmed that a certain amount of physical activity had been completed.
